This document provides some quick tips and tricks for google searches that you may not know are possible. They are quick and easy and time savers for students.
Create a Custom Google Search

If you try to search for a topic using my custom search engine you will find that only search engines that I have designated as part of my custom google search engine will be used. This is a great way to keep your students within specific search engines that you have checked out and found appropriate for them. In my custom google search you will see that www.kidsyahoo.com ; www.awesomelibrary.com; www.iknowthat.com; and www.wikipedia.org are the only search engines for which information will appear. Try It! Put in a topic and see what comes up. To close up the search list just click the X nest to the search window.

Google Reader The advantages of google reader are that it allows the user to subscribe to blogs or websites that are frequently updated and then it lets you know when something new has been added. For CVSD users you can use the instructions below but you will go to the district Google page www.Google.com/a/cvcolonials.org and then follow the directions on the forms below.
Google Documents - below are instructions to creating a Google Document using a regular Google account.
Next to the create button you can click the icon with the arrow. This button will prompt you with options to browse your computer folders and files so that you can keep your documents organized.
Users can also organize their documents in the my collection section of the left menu items on the Google Docs screen. If you click on my collections you will see a new folder icon appear (see below). Click on this icon to add a new folder to your my collections. You can then organize your Google Documents into the folders you create. Flubaroo - Check out this site to learn about Flubaroo. You will find a quick video tutorial as well as a practice quiz to grade.
More than just a grading tool, Flubaroo also:
Computes average assignment score.
Computes average score per question, and flags low-scoring questions.
Shows you a grade distribution graph.
Gives you the option to email each student their grade, and an answer key.
